First week

July 26, 2008

One week has passed since I last posted, when I think about everything I did it seems like a month ago…But at the same time it seems like I just got here yesterday…weird.

This week I was on Work Crew, which means that I worked in the kitchen from 7:30 a.m. until lunch was over then back for dinner by 5:30 until dinner was cleaned up and the dining room was set for breakfast. I am also on the dining room decorating team so helped clean up dishes after lunch then would decorate the dining room for the theme night that evening. Basically I was in the kitchen/dining room all day long, all week long. I truly enjoyed this job but am looking forward to next week when I will be working with the kids and interacting more with the families that come.

God has provided strength, joy, patience, and so much more this first week. I have been able to get in His word everyday and have been blessed in so many ways by the other staff and the campers. One family bought a lot of fresh fruit (something we don’t get much of around here) and gave it to the staff. That was very much appreciated by everyone.

Much is being done here, lives are being changed, marriages are being restored and commitments are being made. We are all praying that this is not just a “camp high” but that genuine, life transforming changes are taking place.

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

–Eph 3:20-21

May you too know the joy that comes from giving yourself fully to the Lord, to do His work and sacrificially serve in His name.

First days

July 19, 2008

Well, I have arrived at Gull Lake and it almost feels like I never left. I got right back to work helping in the kitchen. After the campers left Friday morning and we had cleaned all the cottages, we had a nice picnic on the rec field after which the first half staff shared what God has been doing in their lives as a result of being at camp. This is going to be an AWESOME five weeks!! Our God is so powerful, I can’t wait to see how He will work in my life and the lives of other staff as well as the campers. I’ll have more to say next week…

Gull Lake!!

July 14, 2008

Yeah, I am so excited to have the opportunity to work at Gull Lake Ministries this summer. Actually I will only be working the second half of the summer. Having gone to the 12 day orientation in June, I am looking forward to going back on Thursday for the real thing. I will be at Gull Lake until August 23… just in time to start classes on the 25th.

I was very impressed with the high standards that the camp holds its staff to. We are expected to work all week enthusiastically and practically nonstop until Friday afternoon when we get a break until Saturday at 1:00 pm when we begin the next week — with just as much eagerness, gusto and excitement as we had the week before. The emphasis is not on us but on Christ and how we can serve the campers as He would serve them.

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

~Galatians 6:9-10
